Track Geometry Analysis and Forecasting Software

ZETA-TECH’s TrackLife system is an integrated track geometry analysis and forecasting system that generates surfacing and alignment maintenance plans for the system network. TrackLife calculates time to next surfacing interval for each homogeneous track segment, e.g., individual curve or tangent, based on current and historical track geometry (as measured by a track geometry inspection vehicle), past and future traffic history, track characteristics, etc. The analysis TrackLife analysis program includes development of comparative Track Quality Indices (TQIs) that allow for the comparison of the condition of the track on a comparative basis. Alternately, the TQIs already generated by the track geometry car can be used directly. TQIs are calculated for segments of 0.1 1, 10, and 100 Km. TQIs calculations also form the basis for the calculation of the next surfacing date for each segment. TrackLife calculates a surfacing due date for each segment and develops a short, medium, and long term maintenance program.

TrackLife allows for efficient evaluation of current track geometry condition and accurate planning of surfacing requirements. This allows for accurate planning and budgeting for surfacing, lining, and other track geometry maintenance activities. TrackLife also allows for analysis of track maintenance options to determine the most cost effective maintenance program for the track.

The track geometry forecasting algorithms within TrackLife utilize statistical analysis techniques to predict growth rates and future track geometry levels based on TQIs calculated directly from the track geometry data. This, in turn, is used for the determination of surfacing dates and requirements. Data used in the determination of the TQI and life parameters include actual track geometry data, tonnages, and other relevant engineering and operations data, which is available from the railway.

NOTE: ZETA-TECH’s TrackLife algorithms utilize a "hierarchy" of analysis approaches, directly related to the actual amount of data available. Thus, if a sufficient level of data is available by segment, then a full statistical analysis is performed. If a smaller amount of data is available, then a limited statistical analysis is performed based on the available data for that segment. If even less data is available, then alternate approaches are implemented which using an engineering model approach based on limited data. This model also allows for the forecasting of surfacing dates, even when the track geometry data is not sufficient to permit statistical analysis. In all cases, ZETA-TECH’s proprietary engineering model for calculation of surfacing requirements as a function of key track and traffic parameters is used to validate, and as appropriate supplement, the statistical analysis.
The output of the model is an annual forecast of TQI levels, by segment, together with the forecast surfacing cycle. Surfacing cycle forecasts are based on user defined surfacing and/or alignment criteria, to be set in conjunction with railway personnel. Grouping of adjacent or near adjacent replacement segments is performed to define longer surfacing segments.
